Devotional Thoughts

Recently I’ve been reading a book titled “The Ragamuffin Gospel” written by Brennan Manning. Usually I don’t like to read books on Christianity from other points of view then I’ve been raised with, but I think it’s time for me to familiarize myself with how others think and why, so here’s a short paragraph form this book on “HONESTY”, hope that you can find a new meaning in how to be all for God.

Honesty

Honesty requires the truthfulness to admit the attachment and addiction that control our attention, dominate our consciousness, and function as false gods. Honesty involves the willingness to face the truth of who we are, regardless of how threatening or unpleasant our perceptions may be. It means hanging in there with ourselves and with God, learning our mind tricks by experiencing how they defeat us, recognizing our avoidances, acknowledging our lapses, learning completely that we cannot handle it ourselves. This steady self-confrontation requires strength and courage. We cannot use failure as an excuse to quit trying…. There is a beautiful transparency to honest disciples who never wear a false face and do not pretend to be anything by who they are.

To be alive is to be broken; to be broken is to stand in need of grace. It is only through grace that any of us could dare to hope that we could become more like Christ.

Few more thoughts from Acts of the Apostles

If the fulfillment of the promise is not seen as it might be, it is because the promise is not appreciated as it should be. AA p. 50:1

HOLINESS

Holiness is not a rapture; it is an entire surrender of the will to God; it is living by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God; it is doing the will of our Heavenly Father; it is trusting God in trial, in darkness as well as in the light; it is walking by faith and not by sight; it is relying on God with unquestioning confidence, and resting in His love.

Hey, Sveta! It was so great to get a comment from you!! I know, it has been a very long time since we've managed to see eachother, but I do think of you girls often, and remember how much fun it was when we did get together. :)

I enjoyed hearing about your time in Africa, though, and Shannon fills me in on life once in a while, when I manage to catch up with her once in a great while.

I didn't know you were at Union-- that's not so far away from here as down South. :) Yes, we're out in Colorado now. We just moved again, from a high desert valley, to the mountains, even higher up. It's interesting and beautiful up here. It sometimes reminds me a little bit of Alaska, only it's a lot more sunny and warmer.

You're right- God is good, and I know His plans and ways are always the very best. It's so good to be able to trust Him with our lives, and know that He'll make something beautiful, even out of our mistakes, if we recognize them and let him change them.

You and Shannon should come out and visit us someday. *hugs*
